Yes, two Mackie players, Waqas Hussain and Roshan Lakmal, have been selected in the Knights Awards SECA Team of the Year.

Waqas Hussain – eyes on the ball                                       Roshan Lakmal – holding the bat aloft

Waqas was selected as an opening bat, after scoring 945 runs in 16 games, with a high score of 197 (a Mackie 1sts record) at an average of 67.5 and a strike rate of 162.1

Roshan was selected as an all-rounder, after scoring 373 runs in 17 games, high score 80 no, average 41.44, strike rate 69.5, and taking 33 wickets off 203 overs at a 19.58 average, best innings bowling of 5/40, and 2 x 5 wickets in an innings.

Alongside our two selected representatives, we believe that our wicket-keeper Nipun Haggalla should have been selected too. In his 16 matches, he had 24 dismissals, being 14 catches, 9 stumpings, and 1 assisted run out. As well, Nipun scored 456 runs at 38 average, with a high score of 179. But, (to borrow a phrase from Kevin Sheedy) we know 3 Mackie players would never be selected by “the aliens” in the one representative team.

Well done Waqas and Roshan, and you too, Nipun.
