Now that we have entered the new year, here’s an update for each team. This season has been difficult due to the fact that we seem to have had more players from the top two sides not being available for every game which in turn takes away players from the lower grades to fill those positions. Hopefully that will not be the case for the last three games of the season.

On each team, we report as follows:

Firsts

Have won three and lost three which has given us 18 points and just out of the four on %. In our last game Waxy made 48, Dale 46 and Nic 29not out in our score of 3/165 chasing 7/163 where Roshy picked up 3/26. West Bentleigh are in 4th Position with a better % than us but the teams from 4th to 7th are all on 18 points. If we can win the last three games we will play in the finals.

Seconds

Have struggled with a large turn over with players and at this stage have only won one game. Ben Ebinger has continued to bowl well picking up 4/34 in the last game. However if all our players are available after Christmas we will be more competitive and pick up some more wins.

Thirds and Fourths

These teams have been severely impacted by the above situation with the Thirds yet to win a game whilst the Fourths have managed 12 points. Adam Varmalis made an excellent 81 in round 6. Tim Krotofil made a cameo appearance in one game making 53 not out and picking up 3/6 to give the fourths a win. Again hopefully we can turn things around after Christmas.

Sandringham / Mackie turf team

We have joined forces with the Sandringham Cricket club to enter a team in a turf competition. This composite team is going along nicely and are now second with 24 points well ahead of the fourth team on 16 points.

Mackie Legends

We have seven new players to the club who have been the nucleus of the team supported by 8 Mackie players having a few games here and there. The new players have fully embraced the club and although they have only won one game, the formation of this team has been a great success. The best batting performances have come from Peter Boulouxis 44*, Greg Ebinger 43* and Jamie Jeffery 40.

Under 17

We are currently fourth with 18 points but have scored the most runs in the competition. Brad Higgins top score is 69 to go with his masterly 66 when he played in the Senior seconds team.

Under 12 B

Are going well and are currently second with the same points as the top team.

Under 12 C

Are also going well and are second two games clear of third spot.

Rookies

This group of children (approximately 25) between 5 and 10 are really enjoying their cricket under the guidance of Marcus Middleton which is a great sign for the future.
