Mackie Cricket Club is pleased to announce that Stef Middleton will be Mackie women cricket captain 1st XI for the upcoming season. Having missed the majority of last season due to injury, Stef will be able to return to her role as our on field leader that she performed so well in her Premiership winning debut season of 2020/21.
“I am really looking forward to getting back out for a full season of cricket this summer” said Stef. “It is so enjoyable to get outside and have some fun with a great bunch of people!” she added.
The female cricket program at Mackie continues to grow despite the challenges of COVID in the past 2 seasons. Ross Henderson, Vice President – Female Cricket stated, “We are delighted that Stef can resume her on field role for the upcoming season. Stef is a great addition to the batting line up and we missed her last season as we competed in Division 2 of the CSBW competition.”
The team were well led by Lori Lygris last season as Mackie women cricket captain, and we are very happy to announce that she will join Stef as Vice-captain. Last season provided opportunities for new players and upcoming junior girls alike to experience women’s cricket at Mackie, and we are focussed on growing the female participation at our club. Our preseason planning is well advanced and we are focussed on establishing a 2nd XI team to allow more female cricket participation in the Bentleigh East community.
If you or anyone you know is interested in giving cricket a go, no experience is required to come and join us! We offer a family friendly and supportive environment for players of all skill levels. Stay tuned for upcoming opportunities to ‘come n’ try’ cricket with Mackie.
